Important People

Maldreth Matriad

A politically strange nightmare of misinformation. An elf, a winged elf typically who appears to be very obviously missing his big-ass wings, Maldreth Matriad is the Captain of The Moon, an ex-hero of Robasa (Lapis), and for a very long time enemy number one of The Republic. He was summoned to Robasa under the third Iteration of The Council of Dragons on 2/39/9138 alongside several prominent figures; Kian Shigar, Whima Terreia, and Scarlett Bravo Rivero, and worked under council head Bravophae Tenebris Purpumtum. He served the council reluctantly, and was one of the longest living and serving heroes of Robasa of his period. During this time, he and his group along with then Robasian hero-assistant Finnigan Leagallow had formed an underground association dedicated to overthrowing the Council of Dragons. While working secretly behind the scenes the unnamed group garnered a lot of support from individuals within The Council and associations actively and loudly acting against them. Purportedly, this group slowly gained prominent members, ranging from other heroes of other cities to active council members- including Metallic Council member Victory the Gold, ex-member and council founder Yevie Tenebris Purpumtum, and his daughter, the active head of the council, Bravophae Tenebris Purpumtum. When the acting Mayess of Metrianda died this group decided that it would be appropriate for him and Kian to enter the running once election time came around, which they did. Both candidates were wildly popular, Kian in particular being favored in polling quite consistently, though Matriad inevitably dropped out when he entered the running for Captain of the newly built Moon and after the execution of his daughter, Levone Merrit, by The Council. Speaking on that matter, prior to his summoning his daughter, Levone Merrit, was summoned to the Underglass city of Off-Ramp which was under the control of the Gold Metallic Council Member: Victory. The two started a torrid love affair in secret as The Chromatic Council forbade fraternizing between employees at any level, a rule that feels rather blase on the surface but is enforced through the fear of death. If any Metallic Council Member breaks a rule- including having children, a partner, or fraternizing with an employee or fellow dragon- then the Chromatic Council reserves the right to try the dragon and, more often than not, find them guilty of insubordination- a charge that results in the total culling of not just the Metallic Council but their heroes, mayors, and other employees under their charge. This severe punishment was supposedly in place to prevent The Underglass- a resource and population dense area- from garnering too much power and potentially overthrowing The Council. In either case, decades pass undetected until the dragons Violo and Amberline bring forward a case against Victory with undeniable photographic evidence of her relationship. Unbeknownst to Levone, Matriad, and the other members of the group, Bravophae and Yevie spent nearly a month deliberating and trying to bring down Victory’s punishment from total culling to anything lesser- which they were successful in. Unfortunately for the group, the punishment the Council agreed to was for Victory to execute Levone on live television. The group was not warned of this plan, as shortly after the punishment was decided they went through with it- summoning the group to The Perch, along with their in-house recording crew, and began the broadcast- which Miko finds. Reasonably so, the group is miserable, particularly Matriad, who is visible on footage the entire time, screaming and trying to claw out of the dragon Nautalis’ clutches- who restrained the new Captain to prevent him from interfering and harming himself or other attendees. Shortly after the execution he is seen teleporting out of the dragon’s claws and scrambling towards his daughter’s body before being restrained again and removed from The Perch- Victory follows after him. The two are not seen again for weeks, when they reappear both are reported to be behaving strangely, Matriad in particular, who looks sickly and miserable in all photos of him. He is hounded by reporters, but, according to journals and secretive documentation that you find- he is not checked in on by his friend group, nor is what is actually wrong with him noticed. 15 years later, Matriad and Di’or assassinate multiple people in a banquet, stage the Mayessal election, and violently overthrow the Council of Dragons on The Perch using The Sun and The Moon.

Matriad’s odd behavior is attributed to the death of his daughter, which is reasonable and partially true, but the breadth of it is something Miko only finds information about hidden behind more journals, notes, and medical information. Matriad was killed on the night of his daughter’s execution, he teleported back to Robasa and traveled down the tower to The Underglass, where he walked along the black sand beach until he was far enough away that he thought he wouldn’t be seen. He intended to end his life here, by sailing out to the Vehicle Graveyard and drowning himself- though Victory interrupted him. They fought, both grieving and highly emotional- and when Victory attempted to stop him he retaliated violently to try and scare her off- she bit back and clawed him in half. He bled out on the sand. In a panic, both deeply horrified that she killed off an entire family of people she cared about and scared of The Council’s retaliation for a much heavier crime immediately after she got a heavily reduced sentence, she brought his body to TweleveCourts where she made some sort of deal with the Mystic Neveah. What exactly happened afterwards is unknown, but rumor has it that the Queen Pareidolia Di’or is actually Victory herself and that she was puppeting the dead Matriad’s body after that incident.

In either case, Matriad’s sudden change went unnoticed by anyone who could have done something until it was far too late and he became the scapegoat for The 500 Years War. Under the control of Pareidolia Di’or he committed a variety of war crimes and atrocities in the name of The Sun and The Moon and effectively severed his ties with his original cohort. While The Sun faded into myth, The Moon under his captainhood remained the sole target of The Republic’s ire, up until very recently where he and The Moon broke free of Pareidolia’s control and allied themselves immediately with The Republic. As it stands currently, Matriad is being held captive on The Sun for the second time this year, the first having prompted the creation of the Federation of Metrianda; a political coalition of nearly every faction in Metrianda unified under the desire to destroy The Kingdom of The Sun and kill Pareidolia Di’or.

Matriad is widely regarded as a charismatic and theatrical figure, known for his sociable demeanor and flair for public engagement. Despite his controversial legacy, he is noted for his ability to make those in his presence, guests or captive, feel at ease. Numerous accounts describe him as attentive and accommodating, often going to great lengths to ensure the comfort of others during personal interactions. A self-professed enthusiast of strategy games, Matriad is particularly fond of traditional Earth chess, though he has expressed a growing interest in board games from alternate dimensions. His affinity for games is often reflected in his diplomatic style, marked by calculated charm and improvisational wit.

Observers have described Matriad's interpersonal approach as both persuasive and disarming, a quality sometimes referred to as the "Matriad Charm." He is known to employ this charisma strategically; whether navigating political intrigue, managing internal dissent, or influencing the outcome of a casual game. His public persona blends affability with a subtle cunning, contributing to his enduring influence in both political and popular spheres.

In prior histories, not much seems to change with Matriad. His personality is often the same and he is typically as described above, though with slight changes (as usual). Factions, species, aliases, gender, number of children, etc etc- though in the furthest back history you can find he is… absent. Well, he’s there, you can clearly tell that he had a presence, he was Captain of The Moon as appointed by Meter Matan, but actual documentation is missing. Something happened, you just can’t find it.
